Our friends at Community Alliance need everyone to act NOW. Extreme drought is jeopardizing small farms and our local food community. Record temperatures, depleted reservoirs, water shutoffs, aquifers drained by corporate ag. If California doesn’t act, we run the risk of showing up to next week’s farmers market to find our favorite vendors gone and "for sale" signs where farm stands once stood. The risk is even greater for the most vulnerable farms, those from under-served communities with the fewest resources. That’s why we’re calling on state lawmakers to make investments in emergency relief, water-smart farming education, and an equitable place at the table for small farms as California develops policies for a drier future. Growing Communities, Inc. dba Crop Swap LA ™
We acknowledge the Gabrielino/Tongva peoples as the traditional land caretakers of Tovaangar (the Los Angeles basin and So. Channel Islands). We pay our respects to the Honuukvetam (Ancestors), ‘Ahiihirom (Elders) and ‘Eyoohiinkem (our relatives/relations) past, present and emerging.
They are the First Peoples of the region, their lands were unceded, they did not negotiate a treaty with Mexico or the US government.
Today, the First Peoples of Los Angeles struggle every day for their sovereignty.
